Goodreads Synopsis:

The City is divided. The bridges gated. In Southside, the hostiles live in squalor and desperation, waiting for a chance to overrun the residents of Cityside.
Nik is still in high school but is destined for a great career with the Internal Security and Intelligence Services, the brains behind the war. But when ISIS comes recruiting, everyone is shocked when he isn't chosen. There must be an explanation, but no one will talk about it. Then the school is bombed and the hostiles take the bridges. Buildings are burning, kids are dead, and the hostiles have kidnapped Sol. Now ISIS is hunting for Nik.
But Nik is on the run, with Sol's sister Fyffe and ISIS hot on their trail. They cross the bridge in search of Sol, and Nik finds answers to questions he had never dared to ask.

My Review:
The Bridge - a post apocalyptic novel with a great cover and a synopsis that would pull any reader in - did not really cut it for me.
I was really looking forward to The Bridge by Jane Higgins, and was thrilled when I got it. I started right away and thought I was in for one hell of a book. But I just could not commit to The Bridge the way I wanted to.
Let's be honest here, the beginning and end was decent, high-energy, action packed and thrilling. But the middle was lacking. There were times when I was reading and was sure that I just skipped like 10 pages, I would look back and realize that I didn't - I was just missing something that I thought should have been there.
Nik and Fyffe, while over on the other side of the bridge had so much potential to make the story come to life, to really pull the reader into the divide, but they didn't. The characters didn't connect with me on any level. I wanted to know what Nik and Fyffe's friends did while they were separated. And I feel as though we deserved more background as to why the world was divided the way it was. Unfortunately, The Bridge didn't live up to my expectations. Overall, in the 344 page book, I wanted more.
