Hard Cover Vs Paperback

We all love books, that's why we blog, and read other blogs, but in which format do you love your books the most? With there being paperback(trade paperback), mass-market paperback, hard cover, and even audio and ebook form, I'm curious to know what people like.

I like both paperback and hardcover, and looking through my bookshelf, it's obvious.

There are some books that I prefer one over the other. For example, I have most of Jodi Picoults books, and they are all paperback, except for House Rules which is hardcover. Honestly, I love reading Picoults book in their paperback format. They are small, and easy to handle and easy to read. And for whatever reason, I feel more at home and comfortable holding her books in paperback. But on the other hand, I love my hardcover Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn. Yes, they are big, thick and heavy, but they fit so nicely in my hands, and I love the feel of them. I've held the paperbacks of these books, and they don't feel right. And other series, such as the House Of Night, I don't mind one over the other. (I have #1-4 in paperback, and #5-8 in hardcover).

I've got an audio book (Tell Me A Secret by Holly Cupala) on my ipod, and I've listened to the first few chapters while I'm on the bus, and I'm not really fond of this format. I find myself looking around, not really paying attention to the story and just forgetting that I'm listening to a book and not music. I would much rather be holding a book and reading it.

And now for the most debated format of all - ebooks. I don't have an e-reader and have no plans on buying one any time in the future. Don't get me wrong, I like the idea of these, but I have no use for one. I enjoy holding the book, and I feel good knowing that I have a book in my purse or bag. I don't travel very often or very far, and therefore I can stick a book in my luggage and not worry about not having a back up book. Sure, I've tried my hand at winning a Kobo, or a Nook, because I am interested in seeing if I would like it or not. But for me, I'm not ready to make the purchase toward an e-reader.

What about my fellow book bloggers, or book readers, what do you prefer and why?

This is an interesting question & you'll probably be inundated with various interesting answers. I like all types of paperbacks for their price, soft fabric (not cardboard) hardcovers for their feel, and am not too interested in any other forms.

Great question Krystal. I don't really have a prefernce other than to say I don't think I would be a fan of the ebook either. I would be easily distracted or get quite bored listening. I'm a little behind time here obviously because I'm not sure what trade paperback is. So for me I'd have to say paperback or hardcover is my favourites!

I prefer hardcover because it doesn't get bent but I also love paperbacks because it just feels more comfortable in my hands as far as e-readers go my hubby has offered to buy me a kindle or nook and I keep saying no thanks! It's going to take me a lot longer to get used to the idea of reading a story off of a screen.

I typically only buy paperback unless it's a book I really want to read and it hasn't been released in paperback form yet, then I'll read hardcover. I prefer the softness, the bend-ability of a paperback.

I think I would enjoy an e-reader and keep trying to convince myself to get one but I think I'd miss the smell of good ole fashioned books! There's nothing better then opening a book (especially older books that have been who knows where) and just breathing in the smell!

I do have Kindle, and Kobo on my IPhone and have started to read a book on each but I find that screen is just to small and I'm flipping the pages so often it seems more of a pain than anything!

Great question though, I think you'll have lots of different answers with different reasons! I'm interested in hearing/reading them!

Great answers so far - Kandice, if you ever do talk yourself into a Kindle or Kobo or whatever the case may be, you'll have to let me have a look! They are pretty neat, and each time at Chapters I play with one. But again, I'm not ready to make the switch personally.

I think I prefer paperback, mostly because they're more comfortable for me to read, and are easier to curl up with. But hardbacks always seem to have nicer covers than their paperback releases, so it's a real dilemma!

Interesting question! I tend to prefer paperbacks, because I can buy 2-3 paperbacks for the price of one hardcover! For ease of reading, my favorite is trade paperbacks. I like the larger size with a paperbacks flexibility.

I have a nook, and use it mainly for eARCs. Like the convenience of having several books at my fingertips, but don't think I'll ever give up my physical books!

Liz - you're right, hardcovers do have nice covers, and I love taking the sleeve off them and having a look at the actual book bindings.

Alexia - I can see that buying 2-3 paperbacks is better than 1 hardcover sometimes.

Paranormal Opinion - Thanks for stopping by, and for the follow. The Price of paperbacks is so so much better, isn't it!?
